- Huddersfield site now a global ‘Centre of Excellence’
Syngenta is one of the world’s leading companies with more than 28,000 employees in some 90 countries dedicated to its purpose: Bringing plant potential to life.
Established in 1916, Syngenta’s Huddersfield Manufacturing Centre employs over 400 skilled people, dedicated to Manufacturing Excellence. The Huddersfield site is a vital part of the Syngenta manufacturing network, making important crop protection products that help growers meet ever increasing demand for food, feed and fuel. Huddersfield manufactures the Active Ingredients of several of Syngenta’s most important global products including the herbicides Gramoxone®, Fusilade® and Reglone® and the insecticides Karate® and Force®.
The Huddersfield site’s various production processes were capable of producing huge amounts of valuable data, but it was not being stored for analysis, leaving the Syngenta team to react to issues rather than proactively solve them.
Recognising an opportunity to increase efficiency through the adoption of technology, Syngenta had the foresight to approach SolutionsPT to help capture their requirements and recommend a solution. After conducting a review of the processes and gaining an insight into the company’s requirements, SolutionsPT aligned Syngenta’s business needs with a fully scalable solution, in the shape of Wonderware Historian. Wonderware Historian is a fully featured, high-performance, real-time database, specifically designed for capturing the very large, rapid and granular data sets generated by modern automated industrial facilities.
The use of Wonderware Historian was the first step towards providing Operational Intelligence for Syngenta at the Huddersfield site, allowing it to eliminate data silos and empowering technical and manufacturing to use data to drive efficiency.
